Jerry J. Brennan, Co-Founder and Chief Executive
Jerry is the co-founder and chief executive for the Security Management Resources® Group of Companies (SMR Group). He is a respected veteran of international big business and brings a wealth of executive security leadership to the SMR offering. Prior to SMR, Jerry enjoyed a 26-year career in domestic and international enterprise risk and security leadership roles for Mobil Oil Corporation; Chicago Board Options Exchange; Panduit Corp.; and was a resident advisor to the Director General of the Royal Commission in Jubail, Saudi Arabia. Before transitioning to the private sector, he spent several years in Europe working with various international authorities and served with the US Marine Corps. Additional relative career highlights include: Authored the book “Security Careers: Defining Jobs, Compensation and Qualifications”; Chaired the international committee that developed/ published the ANSI Chief Security Officer Organizational Standard for ASIS International; Regularly writes and speaks on security topics for the media and professional groups; Tapped by Security Magazine as one of their Top 25 Most Influential People in the Security Industry; Currently serves on the Board of Directors for the International Security Foundation and is a member of SHRM.
Joanne R. Pollock, Co-Founder and Chief Administrative Officer
Joanne is the co-founder of Security Management Resources®. She serves as the chief administrative officer for the group and works to develop and manage the implementation of SMR’s administrative and legal functions. Joanne’s background includes work across multiple functional areas with a focus on diversity and human resources, sales and marketing and IT services and support. She has a solid track record of working successfully with leadership teams at Fortune 100 companies. Joanne is a long-time member of ASIS International.
James A. Butler, Managing Director, EMEA and Asia Pacific
James is SMR Group’s managing director for Security Management Resources® Limited in the United Kingdom and Security Management Resources® Asia in Hong Kong. He has over 15 years of recruitment experience within the corporate security risk sphere. Prior to SMR, James spent over eight years heading an international security recruitment brand working with FTSE 100 and Fortune 500 companies. His security recruitment experience spans a range of industries globally, and he is well-regarded in the security community. A long-time member of ASIS International, James actively participates through their Young Professionals group, is a member of the Security Institute and, as a Freeman of the Worshipful Company of Security Professionals, is involved in the WCoSP membership committee. He currently serves on a steering group for the Association of Executive Recruiters, a specialist sector group of The Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC).
Dede B. Griffith, Director, Global Support Services
Dede is SMR’s Director of Global Support Services. A skilled program manager, Dede joined SMR following a successful career with ExxonMobil where she oversaw implementation of a wide variety of large-scale programs. A process improvement specialist, she has experience developing strategic business continuity plans, IT safety events and has served on several safety committees. She is a skilled communicator who excels in working with diverse audiences to achieve results. Dede holds a BA in Business Administration from Marymount University.
Ryan C. Powell Manager, Technology and Information Security
Ryan is SMR's manager of technology and information security. A skilled technology consultant who managed his own company prior to joining SMR, Ryan advises on and oversees SMR’s computing infrastructure. Previously Ryan had a 10+ year career working for a consumer products company where he managed a technology staff. More recently he was a senior engineer at a technology consulting firm. He holds certifications as a Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) and as a Microsoft Certified Professional, and is a Microsoft Partner specializing in Cloud migration.
Meet a Few of Our Senior Advisors
Jack H. Cage
Jack was a co-founder of Antigua Partners, Inc., where he focused on executive search and assessment and worked with leaders from both the public and private sectors. Jack additionally spent 10 years in executive recruiting and search at Heidrick & Struggles and Korn/Ferry International. He is a graduate of the US Military Academy at West Point and retired as a colonel following a 22-year distinguished career with the US Army. He is an award-winning author and holds a master’s in social psychology and a doctorate in organizational psychology. A certified coach, Jack is accredited in the Hogan suite of assessments as well as Lominger’s Leadership and Team Architect, and assists SMR by providing a complete understanding of the individuals and teams he profiles.
Eric L. Levine
Eric brings more than 20 years of experience gained in senior security roles at three Fortune 60 firms and as a special agent with the U.S. Department of State Diplomatic Security Service. At SMR, he draws from his diverse security background to find the ideal candidates for executive security searches. Prior to joining SMR, Eric served as the senior corporate security executive for Aetna, vice president and director of corporate security for WellPoint (nka: Anthem) and vice president and chief security officer for Prudential Financial. While serving as a special agent, he was responsible for security at the U.S. Embassies in Tel Aviv, Israel and Kathmandu, Nepal. He is also the founder of The Levine Group, LLC, a security consultancy that specializes in risk mitigation for international and domestic organizations. Eric is a member of the International Security Management Association, ASIS International and International Association of Chiefs of Police.
John E. Sullivan
John works with SMR’s clients to counsel and advise through the various talent management solutions SMR offers. Prior to joining SMR, John was located in London as the Vice President, Security & Crisis Continuity Management at BP, plc, where he led a well-respected worldwide security program. Previously he was the Director of Security for Amoco Corporation, working both in the US and internationally. Prior to joining the private sector, John was an intelligence officer with NCIS. John’s areas of specialization include corporate security, risk management, business continuity, executive management and strategic planning.
Lance specializes in the critical areas of organization strategy, human resource management, risk, and security. Initially trained as a Wall Street insurance and risk specialist, Lance later became a human resources executive with the Arabian American Oil Company (now Saudi Aramco) and a global HR troubleshooter for Mobil Oil Corporation (now ExxonMobil). Prior to founding his consulting firm, Lance was a senior vice president and member of the executive committee of USEC Inc. (now Centrus Energy), a leading uranium enrichment company. At USEC, Lance was responsible for human resources, information technology, and corporate security. Lance advised USEC’s senior leadership and the board of directors on the nexus between business strategy, effective human resource management, enterprise risk, and security. Lance is a recognized expert on the skill set and competencies expected of modern day corporate chief security officers (CSOs). He drafted the first white paper on the subject that led to the development of the ANSI standard for the position. He holds a BS in political science from Eastern Michigan University and an MSc in industrial relations and personnel management from the London School of Economics and Political Science. Lance most recently authored the book People, Risk and Security: How to prevent your greatest asset from becoming your greatest liability.
